Dover to Boulogne by sail-powered passenger ferry

SailLink’s Dover–Boulogne connection uses a small sailing vessel carrying up to 12 passengers and booked bicycles. Its published season is April to mid-September, weather permitting. On 19 October 2026, its homepage is inviting notifications for the opening of 2027 bookings; an October departure should not be assumed.

Boarding takes place at Dover Marina, using the operator’s pontoon meeting point, rather than the Eastern Docks terminal used by the large Calais and Dunkirk ferries. The sailing takes about four to five hours depending on wind and conditions, with arrival at Boulogne’s central marina.

This is a journey for travellers who can manage the vessel’s boarding steps and an outdoor crossing. Bring suitable layers, waterproof clothing and your own food. There is no onboard catering, and the current vessel does not provide wheelchair access. Discuss mobility needs with SailLink before booking.
