Match the hotel to the ferry itinerary
Always confirm the actual ferry port and sailing time before choosing accommodation. Some destinations have several terminals, and the ferry port may be outside the city centre.
Check hotel check-in and check-out times against your sailing, allow time for traffic and terminal procedures, and look closely at parking if you are travelling with a vehicle. For very early departures, a slightly less central hotel near the port may be more useful than a city-centre room.
Check your ferry route
A hotel can make a ferry journey easier
Accommodation close to the right port can remove pressure from an early departure, a late arrival or a long drive across several countries.
Before an early departure
Stay near the departure port the night before so you can arrive at check-in without relying on a long same-day road or rail journey.
After a late arrival
Book close to the arrival port when your ferry reaches land late in the evening and continue the road trip after a proper night's rest.
For a city or island stay
Use the ferry as the start of the holiday and stay in the destination itself before moving on to beaches, countryside or another ferry connection.
Accommodation that fits the ferry journey
Hotel planning around a ferry crossing is different from choosing accommodation for a conventional city break. The most convenient room may be close to the terminal rather than the city centre, particularly for early departures, late arrivals or journeys involving a vehicle.
Confirm the sailing first, check the exact terminal, then compare accommodation that suits your check-in time, parking requirements and onward journey. If you are arriving late, look for reception arrangements that work with the scheduled ferry arrival. If you are leaving early, consider whether the hotel can provide easy access to the port before normal breakfast or public-transport hours.
The Trip.com hotel search at the top of this page provides a direct way to compare accommodation for your dates, while the TopCashback option gives travellers another route for comparing cashback opportunities across eligible hotel-booking services.
Hotels and ferry travel FAQs
Why book a hotel near a ferry port?
A nearby hotel can reduce the risk of missing an early departure, give you somewhere convenient to stop after a late arrival and make a long road journey easier to divide into manageable stages.
Should I confirm the ferry before booking the hotel?
Usually, yes. Confirm the route, port and sailing time first, then choose accommodation that works with the actual terminal and your required check-in or check-out times.
Who handles my hotel reservation?
The hotel search and reservation service on this page is provided by Trip.com. Your accommodation booking, payment, confirmation, amendments and support are handled by Trip.com and/or the accommodation provider under their applicable terms.
