About the operator

Smyril Line routes and travel planning

From Hirtshals, the important choice is whether to finish in Tórshavn, carry on to eastern Iceland, or book a stop in the Faroe Islands. A stopover changes the journey into separate stays and sailings. Check both travel dates before reserving accommodation on land.

In Iceland the ship arrives at Seyðisfjörður on the east coast. Plan onward travel from this port. In Denmark, Norröna uses the Fjord Line terminal at Containerkajen 4 in Hirtshals. The operator estimates a 30–35 minute walk from the town centre, before check-in.

Plan by route

Smyril Line routes

Choose your departure port to read the outbound or return guide. An itinerary to Iceland via the Faroes and a ticket ending in Tórshavn cover different journeys.

Before booking

Passengers, vehicles and boarding

Check-in at the three ports

Smyril Line specifies check-in at least one hour before departure at Hirtshals, Tórshavn and Seyðisfjörður. It asks passengers needing assistance to arrive at least two hours ahead. Recheck the departure notice for your date and tell the operator about any access needs.

Choose the berth and vehicle together

Use your full passenger party and vehicle dimensions when pricing the overnight journey. Check which accommodation the price includes and the arrival day on each leg. A journey with a stop in the Faroes needs a matching onward sailing to Iceland.

Smyril Line booking questions

Where do I board in the Faroe Islands?

Norröna uses Eystara Bryggja in Tórshavn, within walking distance of the centre. Check the departure date and arrive by the deadline stated for your sailing.

Can I spend several days in the Faroes on the way to Iceland?

Smyril Line offers a dedicated Iceland itinerary with a Faroes stop. Select that travel option and check the second sailing before booking the island stay.

What if the comparison form shows no sailing?

Search the same ports and date in Smyril Line’s sailing schedule. Select the correct year and leg, then open the operator booking options to check the passage and cabin price.
